5 Things to Know About Zoey Petitt:
Zoey has been working with DGNN since the spring semester of 2020. She joined as a medical student at Duke University School of Medicine and is now completing a dual degree in Duke’s Master of Science in Global Health program. She plans to continue to work with DGNN as she pursues both degrees.
Here are a few things to know about Zoey:
Zoey is passionate about the brain and nervous system and how these structures allow us to engage with the world. She studied neuroscience and linguistics as an undergraduate at the University of Arizona, which is where she first became interested in neurology and neurosurgery.
- Zoey enjoys traveling and has visited nearly 40 countries. Meeting new people and seeing how different people live around the world helped spark her interest in global health, which she has continued to explore in medical school and graduate school through her work with DGNN.
- Global health inspires Zoey because of its goal to promote health equity and address health challenges on a large scale. She hopes to incorporate work in global health into her career as a physician.
- Zoey is also interested in improving literacy and education globally. For the past 10 years, she has worked with the nonprofit organization Africa Bags to build libraries and address barriers to education for people in Malawi.
